03/06/2003 | Logistics companies prevent theft of goods-in-transit
Companies such as Asda, Tesco, Wincanton and Reality are preventing their goods from being stolen by installing TISS Trailer Security Systems. These logistics companies have already prosecuted several criminals who have been caught in the act of trying to break into their vehicles and reckon that each TISS system can save them more than £10,000 each year.
TISS has a range of anti-theft devices including the 120 decibel LoadSafe alarm which is fitted to the doors of vans and trailers. The system also has a GPS tracking system which sends text messages to the driver and Transport Office if a thief attempts to break into the vehicle which alerts the driver who can then return to the vehicle in time to apprehend the thief.
Logistics Managers can also monitor the security of the fleet and turn the alarms on and off remotely from a desktop PC using the TISS TrailerSafe fleet security control software. The software shows the nature of the alarm and location of the vehicle if an alarm is triggered and also records the last 16,000 events for each vehicle to provide a full audit trail which logistics companies can use as evidence when prosecuting the criminals for theft.
The LoadSafe alarm can also be set to work automatically at specific locations (eg at a Distribution Centre) so that the alarm will disarm automatically when the vehicle enters the site and is armed again once the vehicle leaves after being loaded. The system will also notify if a driver deviates from his designated route which allows the logistics company to improve operational efficiency as well as security.
TISS has received several awards for its security systems including “Business Link Business of the Year 2003”, “Best New Technology Award 2002” and “Siemens Best Product 2001” as well as commendations from the Police, the National Stolen Lorry Desk, Customs and the Ministry of Defence. The Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is also enlisting TISS to help the Government’s fight against terrorism and illegal immigrants.
